EMBER © 4/27/2004 4:19 AM By R. Steven Davis
Fire gone, yet one ember glows
Flames rise with but whisper of blow
Yet die as quickly as came
And only the ember remains
Fodder may force fire to flare
For a frame, fleeting flames feeling fair
Yet, fast, it fails in the fight
With the fervent desire to ignite
Yet the ember just glows on and on
Quietly, constantly there
Not needing yet ready to share
The purpose is simply to be…
To emanate warmth, to care
Resting there deeply beneath
Awaiting a hush of a breath
Outside though cooling and gray
The heart is alive and at play
And the ember just glows on and on
It lasts long with never a tend
Always in search of a friend
If the other may come for a time
It sees only the moment sublime
Rejoicing and wanting to flame
It must always in itself remain
The fire may leap and have fun
As the ember just glows on and on
Yes, the ember just glows on and on
